Accuracy matters more than speed, especially when readers make money decisions based on what they read. This is how we check facts and how we correct mistakes.
How we check facts
- Figures such as interest rates, tax slabs, prices and dates are checked against the original official source before publishing.
- Our publishing system automatically flags any number in a draft that does not appear in the source material, and an editor resolves every flag.
- Calculators state their formulas and assumptions, show when their rules were last verified, and are checked after every Union Budget and rate change.
How we correct mistakes
- Factual errors are corrected as soon as we confirm them. A note at the end of the article explains what was wrong and when it was fixed.
- Updates, when a story develops, are marked “Updated” with the time of the update.
- We do not quietly delete errors or articles to hide mistakes.
