What is Recurring deposit (RD)?

A bank or post office deposit where you save a fixed amount every month for a fixed period at a fixed rate.

An RD suits people who want to save a regular amount with guaranteed returns. Interest is usually compounded quarterly and is taxable. Missing instalments can attract a small penalty.
