What is Federal Reserve (Fed)?

The central bank of the United States, whose interest rate decisions affect markets and currencies worldwide, including India.

The Fed’s Federal Open Market Committee sets the target range for the federal funds rate at eight scheduled meetings a year. Higher US rates tend to pull foreign money out of emerging markets like India, weakening the rupee and stock markets; rate cuts often have the opposite effect.
