What is Rupee depreciation?

A fall in the value of the rupee against other currencies, so that more rupees are needed to buy one dollar.

A weaker rupee makes imports such as oil, electronics and foreign education more expensive, but helps exporters and gives NRIs more rupees for every dollar or dirham they send home. The RBI does not target a level but steps in to smooth sharp moves.
