What is Mutual fund?

A pooled investment that collects money from many investors and invests it in shares, bonds or other assets, managed by professionals.

Each investor owns units of the fund in proportion to the money they put in. Funds are run by asset management companies and regulated by SEBI. Equity funds invest mainly in shares, debt funds in bonds and money-market instruments, and hybrid funds in both.
